Bio

Laurel Morgan, violinist  is an active performing and teaching artist based out of Kansas City, Missouri.  Having graduated from her classical training at the University of Missouri- Kansas City Conservatory of Music, Morgan has expanded her musical tastes and interests to include a variety of alternative strings styles ranging from jazz to fiddle to Americana which she draws from to compose and perform her own creative music.   For several years Morgan was a lead songwriter and violinist for the folk-rock band ‘In the Pines’, which toured throughout Germany and Austria, has music featured in the film ’72 Musicians’ and has won several Pitch music awards.   More recently, Morgan has been an active composer for her violin/cello duo “The Wires”  which explores unconventional avenues for string sound.  Morgan has toured with various projects and orchestras across Europe and Asia.    She has played with the Des Moines Symphony and the international Mantovani Pops Orchestra.  In addition to performing, Morgan has done extensive recording work for various entities included Hallmark, Universal Studios, and the Heart of America Shakespeare festival.  As a teaching artist Morgan directs the Border Star Early Strings Program and hosts the annual “Wired In” music workshop.  Her students have received awards and scholarships from music schools included the LaMont school of Music, William Jewel College, and UMKC.  From 2006-2012 Morgan was on faculty at the Cottey College department of music where she taught strings and directed the chamber orchestra.  Morgan is currently recording a sophomore album as the Wires as she is exploring combining interactive video art with her music.
